Introducing Nork

Drive fast and you’ll miss it, move slowly and you won’t want to leave, the small village of Nork, nestled between its sister ward Banstead and Epsom Downs, is a quiet and close-knit community that offers families a safe and quiet village within easy distance to London. With London Victoria reachable by train within 40 minutes and London Gatwick a short car ride away, Nork is convenient and yet off the beaten track enough to enjoy relatively traffic free family living in its centre.

Historians date Nork back to 3,000 BC with a VIP burial ground said to be located in the grounds of a local property near Nork Park and the park itself has heritage dating back hundreds of years and was once the site of Nork House, built in 1740 and going onto be the home of the Colman mustard family in the 1900’s. Now long gone, the house has left behind it’s footprint with the ruins still visible for those that look closely in amongst the woods on Nork Park

Dining

Nork Village offers up an array of restaurants that include Galu Bar and Grill, a fantastic venue offering Mediterranean food and a bar area with music that serves delicious co*cktails all year round. There are also an Indian Restaurant, Indus, which is highly regarded and there is also Lilly’s café with yummy sandwiches and cakes on offer. Our fish and chip shop, Seine Rigger, is famous locally for its freshly cooked food and has always been known for long but orderly queues on Thursday’s and Friday’s. Nearby on Fir Tree Road we have The Drift Bridge Café offering hearty breakfasts and two further Indian restaurants, one of which has been listed in the Michelin Guide since 1994. Across the A217 on Banstead High Street there are other fantastic restaurant options including Italian, American and various café’s and bakeries.

Schools

Nork offers education for every age with Warren Mead Nursery, Infant and Junior schools located in the heart of the village and The Beacon High School located at the top of the village. Local families tend to stay local with education and as such your child is set to enjoy a good level of education with their peers from the ages of 3 to 18 all within the safe confines of Nork.

Transport

The village of Nork is ideally located for fast access to junction 8 of the M25 reachable in an under 10 minute drive and Warren Road is served by Banstead train station which is within a 6 minute walk and offers a service into Sutton where an array of buses and trains are available into London and beyond.

Amenities

Nork Surgery is our local doctors and sits proudly on the corner of Warren and Nork Road. The local hospital is Epsom and offers A&E services and is reachable within a 10 minute drive. Nork Dentist is available in the Village and Banstead Clinic for baby weigh ins and other health checks across the A217 in Banstead Village.

Leisure

Kingfisher Close is situated within a ten minute walk of the historic Nork Park which is rich in history and was once home to the Colman family of mustard fame. Offering football pitches, two children’s play areas, fitness equipment, a skate park and running track as well as acres of parkland, this fantastic park is the hub of the community and is home to our larges event, Music in Nork Park, every July. On the Nork Park site there is also the Nork Village Club which has a members bar and hall to hire which is home to various clubs throughout the week and there is also a café at the top of the park for snacks and drinks all year round. Banstead Leisure Centre is within a 5 minute drive, offering a pool, fully stocked gym, soft play and café. We are also proud to have Epsom Downs and Banstead Downs on our doorstep, both offering gold courses and Epsom offering horse racing and other events such as concerts and sport all year round.

Shopping

People come from all over to visit the two Something Special store which offer beautiful pieces of furniture, jewellery, ornaments, gifts and clothing, both located in Nork Village which also offers Tony’s news for fresh bread and groceries, a WHSmith with post office and a handy CoOp Supermarket. A large Asda superstore is also available a short two minute drive away. Nork Village itself also offers a barbers, hairdresser and beauticians.
